Newly revisited oral histories of the Lenape, recorded on cassette tape in the 1970’s. Nick Schumatoff, the Curator at Ward Pound Ridge Reservation, sought to preserve the Munsee-speaking Lenape culture and dialect, and took a team of researchers to Oklahoma where the last native Munsee speakers lived in 1976. We will discuss his findings, the implications, and what we can learn from their work. A lecture with slides and archival material and audio taking place in the Nature Center.
